Here is something I've been working on for years...at least 10, and I'm never sure where to go with it but keep yanking it out of the trash so I guess I do feel I should finish it...but how...any suggestions heartily welcomed.

  1. charis, how big is this? and was there a reason you gave this pony no background when you started? ie, were you meaning to applique it onto some other background? judy

  2. Hi Judy, It is about 4'X5'. M original intent was to have the only suggested and I thought I should have put it on a white background. I've played with it on photo shop, dark backgrounds, lighter, even white and none of it worked. It was still just a a horse. I also tried putting a large "moon" behind the horse on the right side...huge really with about 1/3 of it behind the horse. It seemed to give the horse a place to be. Still not sure what to do though.

  6. Well this is (was) my horse years ag. I shot a photo of him coming on to the sand from the ocean. It's a pretty spectacular photo but none of the drama of it is depicted in the quilt. Ah, maybe that is because there is no ocean?? I just the other day narrowed it down a bit on both sides and that improved it somewhat. It's the background that is all wrong. I think I know where Ann is going with her suggestions because the horse just looks like he is floating in space and he needs some reference to something or other. I had thought of some large spherical piece behind it, maybe painting some color on to it...shadows might work....I know that I have to let go of the idea of it being the suggestion of a horse and push it more and more towards realism...not my forte.
